Share your voice and improve campus climate

It’s the time of year again to participate in the Missouri S&T Faculty and Staff Climate Survey. This tool was instrumental last year in gauging the campus climate and assisting Staff Council, Faculty Senate and campus leaders in identifying ways to improve morale. Some of the actions taken so far include:
|
- The creation of the Staff Success Center Manager position
The Staff Success Center was the brainchild of Staff Council as we recognized the needs for a central resource for staff for career development. After research and data collection, Staff Council took a proposal to the chancellor and received the support needed to create the Staff Success Center.
Since then, I can’t brag enough on the incredible work our inaugural Staff Success Center manager, Simone Waldon, has been doing since stepping into the role in November 2022. Professional development is something staff have been craving, and Simone has worked tirelessly to ensure the Staff Success Center is answering the call. New trainings, such as expense report and travel reimbursement, and cost transfers for grants, have been developed and well-attended. More are planned.
Additionally, Simone launched an ongoing employee recognition program and, to date, over 200 recognition emails have been sent so far – truly incredible!
- Staff minimum wage increases
Last summer, S&T invested $1.5 million to make staff pay more competitive. The minimum hourly pay for staff was raised to $14.50/hour, and 509 staff received a pay adjustment for market or equity.
- Finance and Operations Information Sessions
In the effort to be more transparent, the Division of Finance and Operations hosts a series of information sessions for faculty and staff to attend and hear what is happening in areas such as information technology, human resources, design and construction, and fiscal services. These information sessions have also allowed time for attendees to ask questions.
|
The results of the faculty and staff climate survey provided necessary information to help campus leaders, Staff Council and Faculty Senate improve morale. Please consider taking time to complete the survey this year prior to its closing Saturday, April 29. Thank you to all staff and faculty, not only for the work you do each day, but also for the valuable feedback you provide.
