Our first meeting of 2023 was on Thursday, Jan. 12. Andy Careaga, assistant vice chancellor and chief marketing and communications officer, was our guest speaker and provided updates on projects in marketing and communications, including the rollout of the brand refresh. He also gave an update on the university strategic plan and creating a VSE (vision, strategy and execution). Andy answered questions on the council’s role in contributing to this important initiative and how to make our VSE impactful to the university’s North Star goals. The president’s report included an update from Intercampus Staff Advisory Council (ISAC), including updates to the new paid time off (PTO) plan to begin in 2024, results from the latest system pulse survey, recruitment strategies from UM System and information about the shared leave program.
Make sure to check out the newsletter each month to stay informed on opportunities and events for S&T staff.

Staff recognition program
|
Staff Council and the Staff Success Center are launching a new staff recognition program. By providing a mechanism for staff to be recognized and celebrated, we hope that this program helps to build a culture of appreciation.
Ready to send a note of gratitude to a staff member? Faculty, staff and students can complete the form on the Staff Success Center website under the Staff Recognition tab. Notes are collected weekly and distributed by email to the staff recipient and their direct supervisor each Wednesday. If requested, the note can be sent anonymously.

Employee service milestones
|
The university believes that our employees are its greatest asset and it’s important for us to celebrate milestones in your careers. To ensure you feel celebrated and appreciated, certificates honoring your contributions, beginning with five years of service, are presented to our eligible staff. In order to shine even more light on our incredible employees, your milestones are now also shared through the eConnection.
Congratulations to Beth Welter for 30 years of service! Check out other milestone employees honored this month in eConnection and be sure to congratulate these employees when you see them.
